Voices Her’d 2022
This mural was painted during the summer of 2022 on the side of the @foodbazaarsupermarket in Bushwick, NY for @gswellmural’s Voices Her’d program, “a program that gives young women a platform to tell their stories with heart and without censorship.” The group worked together for 6 weeks to design a mural that imagines a future where people of all genders are respected, valued and honored. A world where there is balance and harmony, where womens rights are protected at all costs and every human has autonomy over their own body. The group referenced important readings like “We Should All be Feminists” by @chimamanda_adichie and “the Body is Not an Apology” by @sonyareneetaylor, and also interviewed members of the community to find out what issues were important to them. I’m so proud of these young women and so honored to have spent my summer learning from them and working beside them. We went through a lot together and I think we’ve all come out of this project stronger and ready to make this dream a reality <3 There is so much symbolism and poetry in this mural, you have to see it in person!
