River Crossing
This mural was created as part of the Summer Youth Public Art Employment Program in partnership with @lmdevpartners @cpe2pa and @creativeartworks.nyc. The concept was inspired by a poem written by Leona Fredericks of the River Crossing Residents Association and uses the Harlem Poppy as a visual metaphor to tell the story of the cycle of life from birth to death. The group chose this beautiful imagery to represent the journey that we all travel through life, the wonder of childhood and the seeds that are sown along the way. I was blown away by the maturity and grace that this group showed, not only during the design and fabrication process but also in their interactions with each other. It was so special for me to work on a mural of this size in my own community and really celebrate East Harlem culture and flavor. A huge thank you to my wonderful Teaching Artist Assistants @madelion.art and @rojp_ and to all of our amazing stakeholders!
