Arecibo es 500
This mural is part of the Arecibo es 500 Mural Project organized by Fenando Marquez and Ralph Serrano to commemorate the 500 year anniversary of the incorporation of Arecibo, Puerto Rico and to create a visual resistance to the proposed incinerator.
The mural was designed in collaboration with the home owners, Soñia and her family. She wanted to include the flaura and fauna of Puerto Rico, including the emblematic coqui and a hummingbird, along with Taino and African cultual elements, the Taino God, the Cemi (or Trigonolito) and an African mask from her art collection.
(A huge thank you to my wonderful assistant, Pedrosky!)
