This mural came out of 3 months of brainstorming, envisioning, planning, and sweating with the amazing young women of @gswellmural Voices Her’d program 2023 and assistant teaching artists @masoneve, @alaska___black and Melanie García. We partnered with the staff, students and teachers of PS938 in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn to come up with this fun and inspiring design to encourage kids, especially little girls, to take interest in STEAM subjects and highlight careers in fields where women and POC are historically under represented. We settled right away on a space theme and the ideas just flowed out of us! We had a blast working on this project and I’m so proud of this crew and all of the challenges that they overcame together. Thank you again to Groundswell for another epic opportunity and for all of the support through the design, fabrication and installation of this mammoth project! And thank you to the staff and principal at PS938 for hosting us and supporting us all summer!
